An American mega-artist travels to England for his first European retrospective and decides to visit his original muse and former lover. The jaded artist, whose work commands astronomical prices, "sight unseen", wants to rediscover the passion and creativity that used to inform his work. But the visit – and a difficult interview with a German art critic who questions his motives as a Jewish artist – sparks an unexpected crisis of identity. Margulies' Obie-winning play plumbs controversial subtexts of race, religion, and belonging, in a show laced with humor and incisive dialogue.
